The four-minute mindset

Ybiance Insights · Leadership & Mindset · 1 min read

For years, running a mile in 4 minutes was considered an impossible barrier.

Athletes had come close, but none had crossed it. Many believed the human body simply couldn't run a mile in under four minutes.

Then, on 6 May 1954, Roger Bannister completed the mile in 3 minutes 59.4 seconds. The record didn't just change athletics. It changed beliefs.

The biggest barrier isn't always ability. Sometimes, it's belief.

Just 46 days later, Australian runner John Landy also ran a sub-four-minute mile. Within a few years, many more athletes achieved what had once seemed impossible.

What changed? The human body? No. The human mind.

Many limitations exist first in our beliefs and only later in our reality.
